Tottenham do not see Mathys Tel as a short-term option

Tel is still settling into his new surroundings since making the loan switch from Bayern Munich on January transfer deadline day.

The Frenchman has already shown some flashes of his quality, which includes his first goal for the Lilywhites in their 2-1 FA Cup defeat to Aston Villa.

Spurs have a £45m option to sign the 19-year-old permanently in the summer, but only if he gives the green light to the move.

Ange Postecoglou is confident that the teenager will stay at N17 beyond the summer, with the Spurs head coach making it clear a couple of weeks ago that he has not brought the Frenchman to the club just a few months.

Tottenham are increasingly confident of signing Tel permanently

GiveMeSport have now claimed that Spurs have been handed a ‘significant boost’ in their attempts to sign the forward permanently, with the youngster enjoying his life at Hotspur Way so far.

Ange Postecoglou is impressed with the impact that Tel has made in his first few weeks, with the newcomer embracing the challenges that he is now facing at N17.

The report says that the Bayern loanee is ‘giving indications’ that he is interested in staying on board beyond the remainder of the season, with Tottenham now ‘increasingly confident’ that they will be able to wrap up a permanent deal.

Additionally, it is revealed that Tel is loving life in London and enjoying immersing himself in the culture, thus giving further confidence to the club that they will be able to persuade him to stay.

Will Tel start when Dominic Solanke is back fit?

It is clear from the way that Ange Postecoglou and Johan Lange have spoken about Tel that they think he has the ability to develop into a real star.

One would think that the steep loan fee that Tottenham have paid for the teenager means that he is seen as a guaranteed starter.

When Dominic Solanke is fit, it will be interesting to see whether Postecoglou decides to play Tel on the right or if he considers dropping Son to play him on the left, which is more of a natural role for the Frenchman.
