Big update on Brennan Johnson as top four club make contact with Tottenham star

Crystal Palace’s hopes of signing Brennan Johnson from Tottenham Hotspur have been thrown into doubt after the latest update on the winger’s future.

A number of outlets are now reporting that Tottenham are tempted to cash in on Johnson, as they look to rejig their forward line in the January window.

As many as five English clubs are interested in the Spurs winger, who finished as the North London club’s top scorer with 18 goals last term.

Over the last few days, it has emerged that Crystal Palace have the most advanced interest in Johnson, but the Eagles now have a major challenger for the 24-year-old.

Tottenham winger Brennan Johnson contacted by Premier League club

TEAMtalk have now revealed that the South London club now know that they have a big challenger for the former Nottingham Forest man’s signature.

That competition is coming from Aston Villa, who have now allegedly reached out to Johnson’s representatives regarding a January move to Villa Park.

The Villans are keen on hijacking Palace’s move for the Spurs man and hoping to move things forward quickly after speaking to the player.

The report says that Unai Emery’s men believe Johnson can add pace and versatility to their forward line and are now ready to compete directly with Palace should Tottenham greenlight a sale.

Who is leading the race to land Johnson?

TEAMtalk explain that the Spurs man would prefer to stay in London and wants regular minutes ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which works in Palace’s favour.

Additionally, the interest of the Eagles is already advanced, which gives them the edge in the race for the Johnson.

However, the outlet adds that Villa’s ambition and financial muscle could prove decisive in luring the winger to Villa Park over the coming weeks.
