‘Biggest challenge’ – Jurgen Klopp warns Liverpool of Spurs trio’s ‘blind understanding’

Jurgen Klopp has warned Liverpool will need to be sharp when defending against Tottenham’s attack this weekend and called it the ‘biggest challenge for protection’ his side have faced in a while.

The Reds, fresh off securing a place in the Champions League final, are set to turn their attention back to domestic action to keep the pressure on Premier League leaders Manchester City.

The Tottenham side that Liverpool welcome to Anfield have endured a mixed few weeks as they chase for a spot in next season’s elite European competition.

Antonio Conte’s team have been inspired by the connection of Harry Kane and Heung-min Son, as well as January addition Dejan Kulusevski, who have all been in dominant form since the end of February.

And the trio’s quality has captured Klopp’s attention, who believes his Liverpool players will be in for a difficult time this evening when Spurs take control of possession in the attacking third.

Klopp said (via Liverpool Echo): “It’s a massive test [against Tottenham]. People from the outside will say it’s difficult for Liverpool and we think that too.

“Tottenham have massive quality and are not too much bothered away from home about having the ball all the time and are compact and play on counter.

“Speed like crazy up front, Harry Kane, what a player, they have a blind understanding [the front men]. It’s probably the biggest challenge for protection we’ve faced in a long time. We have to find a way to keep them calm as often as possible.”

Tottenham have developed good counter-attacking patterns under Conte and they will need to put that to good use against a very strong Liverpool team who will likely dominate the ball.

The front three need to be on song if Spurs are to get a positive result, though, but we have seen on quite a few occasions just how much damage they can do when they all combine well.
