Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly close to signing Gedson Fernandes on loan from Benfica for the next 18-months, with the player having arrived at Hotspur Way earlier today (Sky Sports).

But, who exactly is the youngster potentially on his way to North London?

Position: Central midfield

Style of play: A real box-to-box midfielder who loves to get his foot in with a tackle and turn over possession, but is equally as comfortable at driving through the lines on the attack.

Team: Benfica (On his way to Tottenham?)

Youth career: Came through the ranks in the Benfica academy, playing 40 games and scoring five goals for the Benfica B team.

Senior career: Fernandes has played 23 games for the Benfica first-team, but has yet to score a goal.

International: Fernandes has played for Portugal at every age level starting at U15. In the U19s, he played 16 games and scored five goals. He already has two senior caps for the Portugal national side.

Honours: Won the Primeira Liga with Benfica in 2019. Won the Campeonato Nacional de Juniores in 2018. Won the UEFA European U17 Championship with Portugal in 2016, while also being named in the team of the tournament. Was named best young player of the month in August 2018 in the Primeira Liga.
