Jaden Philogene career stats

Despite starting his career with Aston Villa, Philogene has found most of his success with Championship clubs, through loan spells at Cardiff and Stoke, and now at his new permanent home, Hull City.

The youngster made his debut for Villa way back in the 2020/21 campaign with a one minute cameo from the bench, in a Premier League game against none other than Tottenham, funnily enough. He would go on to make six apperances for Villa in total, registering two League Cup assists in the 2021/22 season.

Philogene had a brilliant year with Cardiff last season, making 39 appearances across all competitions and registering five goals and one assist (Transfermarkt). That was enough to secure him a permanent move to Hull City in the summer.

The 22-year-old has been on fire this season, bagging eight goals and contributing six assists in 21 games for the Championship side (Transfermarkt). Philogene is clocking a goal or assist every 0.73 games as it stands.

As per FBRef, Philogene has took 78 shots this season, which works out as an average of 4.07 per 90 minutes, the highest in the whole division. Of those, 28 have been on target, placing him in the top 10 in the league, and an average of 1.46 per 90 puts him second in the Championship.

It’s also worth noting that, this season, Philogene has contributed an average of 0.68 goal creating actions per 90, the fifth highest in the league. He also ranks seventh for successful take-ons this season (59), and sixth for carries into the penalty area (56).

Jaden Philogene strengths and weaknesses

You only have to look at his statistics this season to see that Philogene is the kind of player who loves to run with the ball, with a focus on getting into the box and creating chances either for himself or a teammate.

Philogene is very quick, very skillful, and has a keen eye for goal. He’s also versatile, able to play on either flank and cut inside to cause problems for defenders. Surprisingly, he’s also pretty good at tackling and loves to get stuck in, too.

As for weaknesses, it’s the usual stuff for a young winger, really. Philogene isn’t the strongest player and he’s not great in the air, but they’re not really the attributes you look for in a winger anyway.

What are people saying about Jaden Philogene?

Jaden Philogene has been hailed as the ‘best winger’ in the Championship by his current boss at Hull City, Liam Rosenior.

Speaking to Hull Live, Rosenior has described Philogene as a “top player” and claimed he is the best in his position in the second tier of English football, while also recognising the talents of former Spurs man, Jack Clarke, at Sunderland.

Pundit Micah Richards was full of praise for Philogene recently, too, particularly after he scored a wonderful goal against Rotherham earlier this month. Richards described his skill as “ridiculous” and “sublime.”

Fabrizio Romano recently described Philogene as “one to watch” ahead of the summer, claiming a number of top flight clubs are watching his progress.

Analyst Ben Mattinson has credited Philogene as being a key component of Hull’s recent rise in the Championship, while Scouting Hive described him as a “special player.”

What do The Spurs Web think?

On paper, Philogene is tailor-made for this Tottenham side, and there’s no doubting he is a top young talent who will flourish in the Premier League. With the players we’ve got already, there is a concern that Philogene’s development would be hindered by a lack of football at Spurs, but if it’s a young rotation player we want, he could be a great signing.
