Exactly one year ago, Alfie Whiteman was seen as the number four keeper within the Spurs set-up. An academy youngster with potential, but way down the pecking order.
However, with Michel Vorm released on a free in the summer and Lloris now out injured, Whiteman could well find himself promoted to the club’s number two shot-stopper.
So, who exactly is Alfie Whiteman?
Name: Alfie Whiteman
Age: 21
Born: Tottenham
Fan: Lifelong Spurs fan
Senior appearances: Named on the bench twice last season and once already during this campaign (Transfer Markt).
Youth experience: Has played for Spurs in the Premier League 2, the EFL Trophy, and the UEFA Youth League.
National: Played for England at U16, U17 and U19 level.
Training: Whiteman trained with the first team keepers throughout the 2018/19 season.
Spurs Web Opinion:
If Gazzaniga were to get injured, this lad would likely be the number one at the club until Gazza or Lloris returned. I can still see Levy re-signing Michel Vorm on a free transfer, but we could see the odd appearance from Whiteman this season. This is certainly his best chance to impress Pochettino.
