Brendan Rodgers addresses the idea of Postecoglou raiding Celtic for new Spurs players

Brendan Rodgers has said that he is not worried about Ange Postecoglou raiding Celtic for players this summer, insisting that top players will always attract interest in the transfer market.

Postecoglou will be extremely busy over the coming weeks as he oversees a rebuild of the Tottenham squad ahead of his first season in charge.

Reports indicate that Spurs are expected to offload more than ten players while also seeking to strengthen in several areas such as in goal, central defence, midfield and wide positions (The Athletic).

Predictably, some outlets have suggested over the last few weeks that Postecoglou could look to raid his former club for a few of their players.

90min claimed two weeks ago that the Bhoys are fearful of approaches from the North London club for striker Kyogo Furuhashi, midfielder Reo Hatate and winger Jota.

Meanwhile, The Sunday People (25/06/23 page 61) even stated a couple of days ago that the Australian has asked the Lilywhites hierarchy to re-sign their former academy graduate Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Brendan Rodgers not worried about Spurs interest

However, Rodgers has brushed aside the speculation, backing Celtic’s head of Recruitment Mark Lawwell to secure suitable replacements for any player who leaves.

When asked Postecolgou trying to take some of the Scottish club’s top players to Spurs, the new Celtic boss told The Daily Mail: “Over the course of our discussions, I’ve seen the market we’re in and how well the recruitment has gone.

“Mark Lawwell has this pipeline of players that are available and it’s really impressive what he’s done since coming in and the markets he’s been able to tap into.

“That will continue. That’s where the club is at. Listen, when you’ve got top players at the club they are always going to attract attention elsewhere.

“Those boys have come in and done exceptionally well. Good players will always attract attention. But I don’t worry about that.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect most of the speculation linking Celtic stars with a move to Spurs is lazy reporting rather than based on anything concrete.

Postecoglou would be well aware of the step up in quality between the Scottish Premiership and the Premier League and I would be surprised if he is insisting on any Celtic player being signed.
