Brennan Johnson names the Spurs player who helped him most when he first joined

Brennan Johnson has named James Maddison as the player who helped him most when he first joined Tottenham from Nottingham Forest in the summer.

Just over a month ago, Johnson was being used mainly as an impact sub by Ange Postecoglou, but the winger has forced his way into the starting XI of late with some fine performances.

Johnson now has 12 goal contributions this season, with two goals and three assists to his name since the start of March (Transfermarkt).

James Maddison really helped Brennan Johnson

While a number of Tottenham’s new signings took to Ange Postecolgou’s system like ducks to water – including Guglielmo Vicario, Micky Van de Ven and James Maddison – it took a little longer for Johnson to find his place.

However, it appears that vice-captain Maddison put his arm around the youngster’s shoulder during the early months and helped Johnson to settle into life with Spurs.

Johnson told Stadium Astro: “I think I would say James Maddison. He was at Leicester last season and I was at Nottingham. We both lived in similar areas and we have a lot of common things about us, me and him get on really well, and he definitely made me feel welcome at the start.”

Maddison may not be in the best form on the pitch but you can tell he is a great personality to have around the squad. There is a clear reason Postecoglou decided to make him a vice-captain so soon after joining the club.
