Brennan Johnson reveals Postecoglou demand led to his goal against Man United

Brennan Johnson was once again among the top performers in a dazzling Spurs display against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, and the winger explained it’s all down to the way Ange Postecoglou’s game plan was executed by the players.

Brennan Johnson in the right place again

A dominant performance from the entire Spurs team saw them run away with a 3-0 win against United at Old Trafford to continue the Lilywhites’ unbeaten run. They have now won their last four games in all competitions.

It was another big day for Brennan Johnson, too, who added another goal to his tally for the season. The winger has now scored four goals in his last four games.

His goal against United came after just three minutes, and it was all down to an astounding run from Micky van de Ven, who carried the ball from deep in his own half to the other end of the pitch before threading a peach of a ball across the six-yard box right into the path of the incoming Johnson.

Discussing that cross and the goal, Johnson told Sky Sports: “Once the cross came to me I was happy to put it in. The way we play, the minute we get the chance to put an early cross in we do. The manager demands that we are at the far post.”

We love it when a plan comes together

The game was altered beyond repair for Manchester United late in the first half when Bruno Fernandes was sent off for a foul on James Maddison.

We’ll never know whether United would have fared any better with 11 men on the field, but Johnson believes his team were in control regardless.

He added: “11 v11, or 11 v 10 we completely dominated the game. We had a clear game plan and we did exactly what we wanted to do.”

Johnson’s form is a joy to behold

I am so, so happy for Brennan Johnson and it’s amazing to see him in such confident, clinical form. This run of goals will do him a world of good, and I really do believe we will see him hit the next level this season as a result.
