Brentford manager names one player who should learn from Harry Kane

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has suggested that Ivan Toney should look to Tottenham’s Harry Kane for inspiration and feels both strikers share similar styles of play.

Toney, 25, scored 31 goals in the Championship last season following his move from Peterborough United which pushed the Bees towards promotion to the Premier League.

In what is Brentford’s first campaign in the top flight for 74 years, he has since managed to record four goals and assist a further two in 13 games.

Toney will have the chance to add to his tally when Brentford travel to Tottenham this evening, who could even go above Antonio Conte’s side with a win.

Spurs will be looking to get back on track in front of their home supporters after an embarrassing defeat to NS Mura in the Europa Conference League and a cancelled fixture against Burnley last week.

The encounter will also serve as an opportunity for Spurs striker Kane to address his worrying spell of form in front of goal, where he is currently sitting on just one league goal this season.

Despite the England captain’s struggles this campaign, Brentford boss Frank believes Toney can learn a lot from Kane and believes the pair have a similar approach to their game styles.

He said (via Football.London): “In this international world, you look across the world and every kind of different strikers, but if you can look at your countrymen and then see one of the world’s best strikers in Kane, why not look at him?

“Of course Ivan needs to prove it on a consistent level. I think if you’re scoring plenty of goals in the Championship it shows you are a good striker.

“Then you turn to next level, and he’s scored four so far for the season, so if you keep scoring a decent amount of goals and keep developing his game and keep staying hungry and open, I think he will keep developing and have his chance.

Frank added: “Ivan is a fantastic player, I think he is on his own journey towards the best possible version of himself. I think he is scoring every single day, I am very pleased with the way he plays.

“It is two top goal scorers. Harry Kane has proven himself a bit more, he will be England’s top goalscorer in the future. A world-class striker.

“They are very good finishers and take good decisions. They are both good in the link-up play, two very good players.”

Kane and Toney do have a similar style of play in the way they like to act as a link between those around them. They’ve both scored a lot of goals respectively, so it should be interesting to see who comes out on top between them during the encounter.
