Brentford boss Thomas Frank has confirmed that rumoured Tottenham target David Raya has turned down the club’s contract offers but insisted that it would take a substantial bid for the Bees to let the goalkeeper leave in the summer.
Raya is thought to be among the names at the top of Tottenham’s wishlist to replace Hugo Lloris in the summer, with The Daily Mail reporting last month that the Brentford star fits the profile of goalkeeper Antonio Conte’s men are after since he is good at playing out from the back.
Relevo reported a couple of weeks ago that the 27-year-old, who is into the final 18 months of his deal at the Brentford Community Stadium, had turned down the club’s contract offers as he wishes to move to a Champions League club in the summer.
Frank has now admitted that both of Brentford’s contract offers have been knocked back by their number one but remarked that the goalkeeper would cost ‘at least £40m’.
The Brentford boss told Sky Sports about Raya: “I think if he turns it down twice then unfortunately that’s a signal. We made two really good offers but that’s fine, it’s a free world. We can’t force anyone.
“That said, David has been amazing for us, coming from Blackburn three-and-a-half years ago. I hope he will stay forever but it looks like it could be difficult with the contract situation.
“He must be at least £40m plus. If he had three years it would be £70m. How much was Kepa? He is at least as good as him.”

Brentford will look to get a bidding war going for Raya in the summer, with Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester United likely to be in the market for a new goalkeeper.
However, there is no way any club would pay £40m for the Spaniard when he is down to the final 12 months of his contract.
