Brentford are showing late interest in a Tottenham Hotspur star, who was only just handed a major role in Roberto De Zerbi’s rebuild.

Spurs began their home Premier League campaign with a 2-0 loss against Newcastle, demonstrating again that Roberto De Zerbi still has a lot of work to do to get the club back up near the top end of the table.

While there were a lot more positives for Tottenham than there were at the Gtech Community Stadium last week, many of their players fell well short of the required level.

One of those is a youngster, who has been played out of his favourite position in both matches, and he is now the subject of late transfer interest.

Brentford express interest in signing Tottenham’s Archie Gray

The Sun have revealed that the Bees are now showing interest in a deal for Archie Grey after being beaten to the youngster’s signature by Tottenham in the summer of 2024.

In fact, it is revealed that the 20-year-old even had a medical at Brentford before Spurs snatched the Leeds academy graduate from under their noses in a £40m deal.

Two years on, the West London club have rekindled their interest in Gray and it remains to be seen if they send an offer.

However, the report makes it clear that Tottenham have shown no interest in selling the youngster this summer and their stance is unlikely to change ahead of the September 1 deadline.

Why Spurs are not going to entertain any offers for Gray

Whatever one thinks of Gray’s fit for the right-back role, he is now the only backup Tottenham have for Pedro Porro, with the Lilywhites yet to sign a replacement for Djed Spence.

It is thus unlikely that Tottenham would entertain offers for the England U21 international, who became the youngest player to even captain the club in their opening league game of the season.

De Zerbi has said that Gray is an example for the other youngsters at Spurs, and having made him part of the club’s leadership group, the Italian is not going to want to lose him.
