Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has made signing Alan Hutton on a permanent basis his number one priority for the summer.

Hutton joined the Black Cats on loan in January and has impressed down the right-hand side, assisting Frazier Campbell’s goal against Burnley on Saturday.

The Scot’s performances have seen Sunderland move away from the drop zone and Bruce is hoping that he is surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane and might be able to sign him up permanently.

“We’ll do our utmost (to sign him). We’ve got respect to Tottenham and see if they want to sell him.

“He’s been fantastic since he’s come here. He gives you so much going forward, so we’ll see what develops. I’d love to make it a permanent move if I could. He’s been excellent.”

Newcastle have also been linked with a bid in the summer.

  1. Please do not sell him to Sunderland, unless they are willing to pay more than 10M…………….sell him to Newcastle…………….after Darren Bent incident, i do not want to see us helping Sunderland out in anyway

  2. In truth I couldn't see why we want to sell him he is great deliverer of the ball and would aid offensively. I guess charlie works so well with Lennon- and gives him the assurity to bomb ahead- with Hutton these leaves us too exposed at back. I think Arry doesn't fancy him- just like Bent, Daws, Pav, Bents, Gomes, Bale, – but many of these have shown what they can do…if we sell him no less than 8 million. But I think there is future for him at RB since I feel Corluka can be Central Defender- when King hangs up his boots!

    • While I accept that Harry did not see Bent as part of his plans and clearly had misgivings about Pav's attitude, how can you say that he didn't fancy Dawson, Bentley, Gomes and Bale?

He took them out of the team when he felt they weren't playing well, but he didn't exclude them. There's only 11 starting places, so someone has be left out!

  3. I wouldn’t be overly concerned if we sold him, while he does look good going forward, defensively I’ve been far from impressed, and he has a habit of giving the ball away at bad times.
Think we’ve got that position covered well enough to be honest.
