Bryan Gil opens up on his aims at Tottenham for the foreseeable future

Bryan Gil has insisted that he is fully focused on improving and taking his chances at Tottenham when they come his way.

Gil has not made a single start this season, coming on as a substitute for all three of his appearances so far, the latest of which came in Tottenham’s 1-1 draw against Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday.

The Evening Standard revealed earlier this week that the 21-year-old’s loan move to Valencia only fell through in the summer since Spurs were not able to secure a replacement.

The report stated that Gil is one of three players Spurs are set to loan out in January along with Japhet Tanganga and Pape Mater Sarr, with Gennaro Gattuso’s men expected to reignite their interest in the Spaniard.

However, the former Sevilla man has now brushed aside the speculation over his future, insisting that he is fully focussed on improving and getting into the Spurs team.

Gil told Marca: “I am focusing on the present, not thinking about the future. I’m focused on improving and playing as much as possible.

“I’m working to give my best level, to do well when it’s my turn. It’s the motivation I have, to improve every day and contribute as much as possible.

“In England, it’s a different style of play than in La Liga; more physical, more back and forth. It tests me. (But) I think I’m getting better.”

I do not think there is any doubt that Gil will leave in January but I expect Spurs to loan him out rather than to sell him. Even if the 21-year-old does not have a future at Tottenham under Conte, his market value will increase ahead of next summer if he impresses on loan in Spain during the second half of the season.
