Bundesliga player linked with Spurs move signs contract extension with club

Tottenham’s chances of signing Peter Gulasci now appear to be over after the goalkeeper signed a new contract with RB Leipzig.

There has been plenty of speculation about Hugo Lloris’ future, with the 34-year-old having just over 12 months left to run on his contract in North London.

The likes of West Brom’s Sam Johnstone, Burnley’s Nick Pope and Lille’s Mike Maignan have all been suggested as potential replacements for the Frenchman.

Sources from Germany suggested earlier this week that the North London outfit could now turn their attention to Gulacsi.

It was revealed that the experienced goalkeeper had an £11m release clause in his RB Leipzig contract that Tottenham were planning to trigger, irrespective of who the club decides to appoint as their next manager.

However, Gulacsi has now signed a new two-year contract extension with the Bundesliga club that runs until 2025, realistically ending Tottenham’s chances of landing him.

Looking at how the rumour about Spurs’ interest in Gulacsi seemed to come out of nowhere just a week before he signed a new contract with Leipzig, this does seem like a case of the goalkeeper’s agent feeding the speculation to the press in order to get his client better terms on his contract.
