‘Cafu reincarnated’ – Some Spurs fans can’t believe how good Aurier was against Olympiacos

Tottenham ran out 4-2 victors against Olympiacos in Jose Mourinho’s first home game in charge. The result means that Tottenham are now assured of a place in the knockout phase of the competition.

It was very much a game of two halves, as the visitors started the game in fantastic fashion and raced into a two-goal lead.

Spurs failed to create too many clear cut chances in the first half but a defensive error by Olympiacos allowed Dele Alli to get a goal back just before the interval.

The second half was a completely different story as Mourinho’s side played in a much higher tempo and the Greek side found it impossible to cope with Spurs’ intensity and movement.

Harry Kane netted a brace while Serge Aurier also got on the scoresheet to make the scoreline emphatic. Aurier’s performance, in particular, left a lot of Spurs fans pleasantly surprised as the full-back was once again one of the team’s stand out players going forward.

Just like his display against West Ham on Saturday, the Ivorian was solid defensively and a constant threat going forward.

Here’s how some Spurs fans reacted to the 26-year-old’s performance:

While it has always been clear that Aurier possessed an abundance of talent, there were major question marks with his concentration, particularly while defending his own box. Mourinho has seemingly solved the problem by asking him to push high up the pitch while Danny Rose tucked in to make it a back three.
