‘Can be a tough ride’ – Jamie O’Hara reveals what Matt Doherty told him about Conte

Jamie O’Hara has revealed that Matt Doherty told him that Antonio Conte is the best manager he and many of his teammates have worked with.

Conte’s six-month reign at Spurs has certainly not been without its ups and downs. However, overall, the team’s form has certainly been on an upward trajectory and with three games to go, the Lilywhites still have a fighting chance to qualify for the Champions League – an objective that seemed completely out of their reach when the Italian took over from Nuno Espirito Santo in November.

There remains a question mark over Conte’s future, with the 52-year-old refusing to commit himself to Tottenham, admitting instead that he will have to meet with the club’s hierarchy at the end of the season to discuss their plans for the future (Football.London).

If what Doherty told O’Hara is anything to go by, the Spurs players would certainly be desperate for the former Inter boss to stick around.

The former Tottenham midfielder told Stadium Astro: “Speaking to a few of the players, speaking to Doherty about Antonio Conte, I asked him what he is like.

“The players absolutely love him, but what he said is, you’ve got to earn his trust, you have to earn his trust first.

“If you don’t, it can be a tough ride for you. But once you get that, and you’re onside and he knows he can rely on you – they said he is the best manager, the best manager they have ever had.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The one thing that appears clear from watching Spurs is the fact that the players have fully bought into Conte’s methods.

That is why I do not think there is any chance that Levy will let the Italian go as he the Spurs chairman will know that the only chance of keeping the likes of Kane happy is if the 52-year-old stays.
