‘Can’t believe it’ – Gazza speaks out on Spurs player’s price tag

After four good years at the club, it is time to say goodbye to our first-choice right-back, Kieran Trippier as he joins Atletico Madrid (Tottenham Hotspur).

The BBC have reported that Spurs managed to get £20m for the defender this summer, who has signed a three-year deal with the Spanish side.

Whilst at Tottenham, Trippier was known for his attacking prowess down the right flank as he provided 19 assists in 114 appearances and scored 2 goals for Spurs (Whoscored).

With Kieran Trippier’s departure, all the talk is now about who will replace the England World Cup 2018 hero in the Spurs starting line-up.

Do Spurs have a plan to bring in a shiny new right-back? Or, is there a ready-made replacement in Serge Aurier, Kyle Walker-Peters, or Juan Foyth?

Whatever the case, one Spurs legend does not believe that Tottenham received enough money for Trippier, despite agreeing that it is a good move for the player himself.

Paul Gascoigne has been talking with Talksport and has had his say on the transfer, he even included one of his infamous one-liners: “He’s a good player and it’s a good move for him, a big move.

“But I just can’t believe he’s going for £20million…

“Some of the players are going for so much nowadays, it’s ridiculous.

“Some of them can’t even trap a bag of cement, honestly…

“But it’s another good player having the chance to play abroad. I did it, but whether he’ll do as good as me, who knows?”

Spurs Web Opinion:

It’s funny, you would hope that a replacement for Trippier has already been lined up, but does Mauricio Pochettino think he can convert Foyth into our next first choice right back? I would argue that a long-term big name needs to be brought in, much like Man United with Wan-Bissaka, but time will tell whether Spurs will invest.
