‘Can’t reveal my source’ – Pundit says PL manager has had head turned by Spurs job

Chris Sutton has claimed that Marcelo Bielsa has had his head turned by the vacancy at Tottenham Hotspur.

Since Jose Mourinho was sacked by Spurs over a month ago, a whole host of names have been linked with the vacant role.

We appear to be no closer to finding out who is going to replace Mourinho, with there being no one clear favourite for the job as things stand.

Some pundits, including former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara, have endorsed Bielsa for the role.

A few reports have indicated that the Argentine has no intention of taking over at the North London club and is instead on the verge of signing a new contract at Leeds.

However, Sutton revealed that his sources claimed that there is still a chance of Tottenham swooping for the 65-year-old and suggested that the Lilywhites’ interest could be the main reason Bielsa is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal at Elland Road.

An angry Leeds United fan who phoned into BBC 5 Live Sport had a lot to say about Sutton’s claim about Bielsa:

However, the former Celtic striker stuck to his guns and refused to reveal his source.

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe the Leeds fan who phoned in is right about Bielsa. While most managers would jump at the chance of going from Leeds to Spurs, Bielsa is not someone who is driven purely by conventional ideas of career success. He is quite evidently a football romantic and I do expect him to sign a new contract with Leeds.
