‘Can’t say that’ – Eden Hazard tells off Chelsea ‘legend’ about Tottenham’s title credentials

The idea of Tottenham Hotspur winning the Premier League title has been floated a few times already this season, but for former Chelsea winger Eden Hazard, the thought of such a thing happening is laughable. In fact, Hazard insisted Chelsea are still better than Spurs, despite being five places and 12 points behind their London rivals.

Expectations were pretty low for Tottenham going into this season. Appointing Ange Postecoglou, a manager without Premier League experience, had raised a few eyebrows last summer.

This, twinned with the fact Spurs were losing Harry Kane, left pundits and fans predicting mid-table obscurity for the Lilywhites in the 2023/24 campaign.

However, with 13 games to go, Spurs sit in fifth place in the table on 47 points. Ahead of them, Aston Villa have 49 points, Manchester City are on 53, Arsenal on 55, and Liverpool lead the way on 57 points.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are down in 10th place with 35 points, with Mauricio Pochettino struggling to make things click at his new club.

Are Spurs better than Chelsea now?

That doesn’t concern Eden Hazard, though. In a recent appearance on the Obi One podcast, hosted by his former Chelsea teammate Jon Obi Mikel, the esteemed attacker claimed Chelsea are still better than Spurs, and that the latter have no chance of winning the league.

Hazard said: “The Premier League is so hard and you see now Man City they are better than Chelsea, you see Liverpool they are better than Chelsea.”

Jon Obi Mikel then suggests Tottenham as a candidate, but Hazard replies, “No, no, Tottenham, no,” while laughing. The host claims Spurs are “playing a bit better,” but Hazard is having none of it.

“They play good football but you know as a Chelsea legend you also can’t say that man. That’s for sure [they won’t win the league]. As a fan you want Chelsea to be the best but it’s hard. Big change in last two years in the team, not just players but owner changing… as a fan we have to push to follow them.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I don’t see Spurs winning the title this season, but give it a year or two and I think we will be firmly in the title race. Chelsea, on the other hand, may well win the Carabao Cup this season, but I think that’s the best they can hope for over the next few years.
