Carragher and Neville pick Spurs duo as best new signing and Player of the Year

Jamie Carragher has picked Cristian Romero as his signing of the season while Gary Neville has picked Son Heung-min as the Player of the Season.

Romero has settled exceedingly well in the Premier League following his move to Atalanta last summer and has already established himself as one of the first names on Antonio Conte’s team sheet.

Carragher admitted there is ‘something special’ about the Argentine, insisting that the 23-year-old reminds him of former Chelsea centre-back Ricardo Carvalho.

Neville, meanwhile, picked Luis Diaz, who Liverpool reportedly stole from under Tottenham’s noses in January (The Athletic), as his signing of the season.

The former Manchester United defender selected Son as the best player in the Premier League this campaign ahead of the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah.

Neville spoke in glowing terms of the South Korean and praised the fact that he is only one goal short of Mohamed Salah despite playing for an inferior team.

Son certainly deserves to be in the conversation for the Player of the Season but I do not think the South Korean is likely to win the award as it usually goes to a player from the title-winning side.

It is great to see Romero getting the credit he deserves for the brilliant campaign he has had. The Argentine is only going to get better as he gets more Premier League games under his belt.
