Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Robbie Keane has joined Celtic on loan.

The Republic of Ireland international will spend the remainder of the campaign with the Scottish Premier League club.

A statement on Celtic’s official site read: “ROBBIE Keane has signed for Celtic. In a sensational transfer coup the club has captured the Republic of Ireland skipper and he joins the Hoops from Tottenham Hotspur on loan until the end of the season.

“The 29-year-old striker fulfils a dream in signing for his boyhood heroes and becomes the EIGHTH signing the club has made in the January transfer window.

“Keane flew to Glasgow tonight (Monday) to complete the whirlwind signing and Celtic’s bold move has grabbed headlines throughout the football world.”

  1. Im not bothered about him going to Celtic, unfortunately hes lost it and he will do well in a much lower standard of football.
Im annoyed with spurs not signing another couple of players.
We may have a big pool of players but many are not up to top four quality which is why we will finish in 7th place.
The board and manager have shown know desire to get into a major europeon competition.
They have failed all us supporters who follow our disappointing displays week after week.
Signing a 31 year old has been and another player who was no good last time he was here is really unbelievable.
We had a great opportunity to go for fourth place by strengthening our midfield and have FAILED. If i see Jenas in our first eleven again this season i will retire from following my life long team.

  2. Never mind those nice words from Harry regarding Keane, let alone he has been rubbish all season so far, organising that infamous Christmas Party which seriously caused a nig enough stir in the dressing room was in my opinion made Harrys mind up. Besides Gudjohnsen won cups and titles with Chelsea and Barca whole doing so never moaned about being a squad player, everytime he came on as a sub or started the game he never caused any agro to hos manager and scored his goals while he is on the pitch..Pavlyuchenko also needs given his chance properly now, Keane though will be back next season unless someone like Martin O’Neil turns up with £8 million or similar amount and we grab the dosh..I just want to see Hutton and Dos Santos do well rather than Keane to be honest, disappointed though we didnt sign another decent midfielder.

  3. I REALLY hope that everyone who promises to RETIRE from following Spurs delivers on their promise. I’m sick of the negativity on this site, and I honestly believe that it gets through to the team. If you say to a group of players that you expect them to fail, chances are they will.

I don’t think the transfer window has been a disaster, definite question marks over the lack of cover for Palacios, the RB & the GK, but we did at least try to address two of those issues.

But Keane’s departure should make way for Pav, with Gudjohnsen representing an experienced backup. Very pleased to see Bentley stay as I really feel that he is turning the corner.

As for Kaboul, how many alleged fans go on about the likes of Gio and Pav ‘who never got a chance’. Well Younes, definitely got his chance too early, failed and got sold. From what I have seen he has been one of Pompey’s best players and I think he’s ready now. Probably not the finished article, but I’d put him in the same bracket as Dawson.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, judge us on our points total, not our position. Harry is on course to equal or better Martin Jol, so give him his dues. I’d love to see MJ return, but only once HR has had a fair crack (i.e. at least 3-4 years in charge).

  4. Well said Mattyboy, its this kind of negativity that gets through to the players on the pitch, and with some of the morons who sit in the Park Lane near me, constantly slagging off the team and then having the gall to claim to SUPPORT Spurs, its part of the reason we dont close out games. If people at your work were constantly shouting at you and criticising your work, wouldn’t you perform badly?

    Guys, GROW UP.

  5. Again…..boyhood club? How many boyhood club that Keane has? Good riddance and hope he doesn’t come back……he’s been playing like shit and still expects Harry to start him in the first eleven.

  6. Mattyboy may I add my point of view. One of the main problems the team has had is leaking goals late on in games. We simply dont know how to see a game out even though we have dominated so many. This problem has been happening for YEARS and has not been sorted out. This is what disappoints me about ARRY, why hasnt he seen this weakness and addressed it, because until then no CL. As for negative comments , I dont think it matters on here, but during games we should be behind the team.

  7. well just saw the news in espn… the fans there are sooo happy to get keane… at least if keane stay he will get the chance to play CL next season
