CEO accuses Daniel Levy and Tottenham of disrespecting his club with transfer offer

Shakhtar Donetsk CEO Sergei Palkin has said that Tottenham’s offer of a 10 per cent sell-on clause on Manor Solomon is disrespectful and called on the North London club to uphold the values of the sport.

Tottenham signed Solomon on a free transfer last summer even though he had around six months left on his contract with Shakhtar at the time.

This was because FIFA had ruled that all foreign players based in Ukraine and Russia would be able to suspend their contracts due to the ongoing war.

Spurs took advantage of this loophole to land the pacy winger but the transfer has not worked out for the North London club, with the Israeli international having been sidelined with injury since October of last year.

Tottenham criticised for Manor Solomon transfer offer

Palkin has frequently complained about the lack of fairness in Solomon’s move to Tottenham, accusing the Lilywhites of not offering fair compensation to his club (ESPN).

The Shakhtar CEO has now addressed the issue again, blasting Daniel Levy for making an insulting offer for the player.

Palkin told The Standard: “We are not asking for money from Tottenham. We are asking for a good sell-on fee for the future. If you sell him for good money we both receive something.

“It’s not respectful that they only offer us a 10 per cent sell-on fee. It’s as if they don’t respect football values or what happens in Ukraine.

“I am appealing to the moral side as if we don’t find a solution, we will have to go to court to the legal side. I want to appeal to Daniel Levy to urge him to uphold the values of the football family.”

A 10 per cent sell-on clause is not an insulting offer when one considers that Solomon only had six months left on his contract at Shakhtar when Tottenham signed him. The Ukrainian club were not going to get more than a few million for the winger anyway.
