CEO of Serie A club claims Spurs-linked star will not be sold in January

Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali has claimed that the Serie A club have no intention of selling rumoured Tottenham target Davide Frattesi in January.

On the back of his breakthrough season at Sassuolo in 2021-22, Frattesi was linked with a move to Spurs during the summer transfer window (Gazzetta).

The central midfielder stayed put at the Mapei Stadium and has been in exceptional form so far this season, having found the back of the net four times already in the Serie A (Transfermarkt).

Sassuolo News reported last month that representatives from Tottenham were present to run the rule over Frattesi during the club’s 2-1 loss at home to Inter Milan.

CalcioMercato subsequently revealed a couple of weeks ago that the 23-year-old, who is valued at €35m (£30m), is also attracting interest from Juventus and Roma ahead of the January transfer window.

Carnevali has now admitted that the Italian club did negotiate the sale of Frattesi with Roma in the summer but insisted that the midfielder will not leave mid-season.

The Sassuolo CEO told Corriere dello Sport about the Italy international: “The negotiations with Roma took place this summer but did not go through. There is an excellent relationship with the Giallorossi club .

“Over the years there have been purchases and sales, like that of Defrel. In January we will not sell our most important players.

“Frattesi is a valid player with great prospects, there are also foreign clubs on him. Our goal is to keep Frattesi at least until June, then we will make the necessary evaluations.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I find it quite surprising that Spurs are being linked with number sixes when Conte already has Hojbjerg, Bissouma, Bentancur and Skipp at his disposal.

While Pape Matar Sarr is likely to be loaned out, I suspect Conte will want to replace the youngster with a more attack-minded midfielder like Weston McKennie or Ruslan Malinovskyi.
