CEO reveals club want to extend contracts of two stars Spurs have been linked with

Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta has revealed the Serie A club are keen to extend the contracts of two rumoured Tottenham targets in Samir Handanovic and Ivan Perisic.

Perisic’s current contract with Inter runs out at the end of the season (Transfermarkt) and it was reported at the start of December that Tottenham had opened talks with the winger (Sport1).

The 32-year-old is alleged to be keen on reuniting with Antonio Conte in North London (Inter Live) and it was suggested last month that there was a lot of distance between the Croat’s salary demands and what the Nerrazuri were willing to pay (TuttoMercatoWeb).

Like Perisic, Handanovic is also on course to be a free agent this summer (Transfermakrt) and Sport Italia journalist Rudi Galetti claimed last month that Conte wanted to bring the experienced goalkeeper to North London at the end of the season.

However, Marotta has now confirmed that Inter are keen on keeping both players at the San Siro.

The Inter chief told Sky Sport Italia (as relayed by Fabrizio Romano): “We want to extend both Samir Handanović and Ivan Perisić contracts. It’s something we want to do as soon as possible, they’re showing their value every single day.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Neither Perisic nor Handanovic fits the profile of signings Spurs are likely to target as part of their rebuild. I doubt if there was genuine interest from Spurs in either player.

The rumours might have been put out by the players’ entourage in order to put pressure on Inter during the contract negotiations.
