Charlie Austin has claimed that Southampton’s Danny Ings would be a good signing for Tottenham Hotspur.
Austin, who is currently on loan at Queens Park Rangers from West Bromwich Albion has first hand experience of Ings’ capabilities having been a team-mate during his time at the Saints.
Tottenham are reported to hold an interest in the England international with Eurosport having suggested earlier this month that the North Londoners are monitoring his situation on the south coast ahead of a potential bid at the end of the current campaign.
Austin claimed that he is not surprised that the 28-year-old is being linked with the likes of Spurs given the strength of his all-round game.
Ings is under contract at St Mary’s until the summer of 2022 and it is claimed that he has been stalling on a new deal over a disagreement over the size of his release clause which would allow him to join a bigger club.
Austin told talkSPORT (8:39am, January 25, 2021): “I think it would be a good fit. I think for Danny it was all about going to Southampton and playing games and forgetting about the injury record that he had.”
“He just brings much more to the team as well. His all-round game is second to none, and the goals just put him in the right direction.
“Last year he scored 20+ goals and this year he is on the way to get the same amount. It’s no surprise that he is linked with a club like Tottenham.”
Ings is a proven Premier League goalscorer, while Carlos Vinicius has shown he can score against sides in the group stages of the Europa League being able to do it week in, week out in the English top flight is a completely different challenge.
