Charlie Eccleshare claims Spurs ‘will try to do a deal’ for Premier League midfielder

The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur will try to get a deal for Conor Gallagher over the line in January if Chelsea make him available for transfer.

It emerged last week that Chelsea were ready to sacrifice Gallagher in next month’s transfer window to fund a move for a top-quality centre-forward and that Spurs were ready to pounce for the 23-year-old (alkSPORT).

The same information was backed up by TEAMtalk earlier this week, with the outlet revealing that a bid of around £40m might be enough for Spurs to lure the midfielder away from Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham expected to try again for Conor Gallagher

Eccleshare has now explained that signing a midfielder could even take precedence over a new forward for Ange Postecoglou‘s side when the window re-opens.

He revealed that the club will probably look to sign a number eight, but they would ideally want a versatile option, who can also operate as a number six, given that both Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr will be unavailable during AFCON which begins next month.

The journalist added that Gallagher ‘has a lot of admirers’ at Tottenham and sources close to Chelsea claiming that they are now prepared to listen to offers, the Lilywhites ‘will try to do a deal’.

It seems like Gallagher is someone who Postecoglou himself is personally pushing for, which is why one would expect Spurs to act swiftly to try and secure the 23-year-old’s signature as soon as the transfer window opens.
