Charlie Nicholas predicts how Spurs will get on away to Man United

Tottenham have a massive game coming up in midweek against Manchester United at Old Trafford in a game that will be the first big test of the Jose Mourinho era.

This is Mourinho’s first return to his Old Trafford since being sacked as Man Utd head coach a year ago and his return will no doubt dominate the headlines going into the game.

Former Arsenal forward Charlie Nicholas predicts that despite how things ended for the Portuguese coach at United, he will not get a hostile reception on Wednesday.

He wrote in his Sky Sports Column, “We have Jose Mourinho’s return to Manchester United to look forward to. Will Jose get stick? They didn’t dislike him at Old Trafford. They may not have liked his style and knew deep down that the players went about his ideas the wrong way, mainly Paul Pogba.

“He had problems with Luke Shaw but Jose has always been honest and up front. He did win trophies and got them a Champions League spot so he will not get bombarded.”

Spurs come into the game with a lot of confidence after registering three wins in three under the new regime. Mourinho and his coaching staff seem to have fixed the team’s attacking issues as the forward players look revitalised.

Nicholas believes that Man Utd are there for the taking if Spurs get on the front foot and insists that the Lilywhites go into the game as favourites.

He added, “I might be wrong but we have a Tottenham team that are three weeks ago would have gone with their heads down – a draw will have delighted them and left them relatively pleased, but Man Utd are there for the taking if Tottenham want it.

“It is strange how things come up. Tottenham are the favourites at Old Trafford. They do not get results against the big teams, but United nowhere near at the moment. I think United will be upbeat for this one as if they have a point to prove, so it will be interesting. Jose will fancy the job though.”

However, Nicholas still predicts just a 2-2 result for Spurs at Old Trafford.

Spurs Web Opinion

As much as Jose Mourinho will want to prove a point on his return to Old Trafford, the likes of Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial will want to prove a point to the 56-year-old due to their tumultuous relationship. Both defences have been pretty leaky recently and so let’s hope out firepower upfront is the difference on Wednesday.
