Charlie Nicholas predicts how Spurs will get on away to Watford tomorrow

Tottenham Hotspur face an away trip to Watford this weekend in the Premier League as they are still searching for their first 2020 win in the competition.

Spurs’ only win in the new year so far came against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup last week, defeating the Championship club 2-1 at home.

However, in the Premier League, Spurs have just one win from the last five games, which came on Boxing Day against Brighton.

A loss to Chelsea, draw against Norwich City, and back-to-back losses against Southampton and Liverpool have Spurs down in eighth and nine points off Chelsea in fourth.

Watford may be down in 17th in the league, but they have one of the best form guides out there, with four wins from the last five, and zero losses in that time.

An out-of-form Spurs side coming up against an in-form opponent could be a recipe for disaster according to Charlie Nicholas, who has predicted a 2-1 Watford win.

He said (Sky Sports): ‘Tottenham will miss Harry Kane. They have survived before but he is their best player, so they will miss him. They have the same defence that they have had in the last three or four years. They still play the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Danny Rose, Eric Dier and Harry Winks just in front, as well as adding Davinson Sanchez to that over the years. Where is the crisis? Is there really that much to worry about?

‘I heard the Tottenham fans were having a pop at Christian Eriksen. Why are they booing him? Did they boo Vertonghen, Alderweireld or Rose? No. Why focus on Christian Eriksen? He has been a fabulous player for them. They are back to being pessimists and searching for excuses.

‘Nigel Pearson has been honest and told his Watford team that they are good players. The defence are listening to Pearson as he knows what he is doing in that department. They are getting more and more belief, despite this being a tough match.’
