Chelsea boss advises Inter Milan on how to avoid defeat to Tottenham

Maurizio Sarri has pinpointed the key aspects that Inter Milan need to follow if they are to avoid defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Both sides meet at Wembley on Wendesday evening in a crucial match in who could progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League. Tottenham must beat their Italian opponents to keep alive their hopes of progression.

The Chelsea manager saw his side suffer their first Premier League defeat of the season on Saturday at the hands of Tottenham who dominated the blues in every aspect of the game.

Mauricio Pochettino’s high pressing style didn’t allow Chelsea’s creative players any time on the ball and raced to a three-goal lead courtesy of Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.

Sarri believes that the opening half hour is when Tottenham’s threat is most potent.

The good news for Spurs is that they have won both of their previous home matches against Inter, 3-1 in the 2010-11 Champions League, and 3-0 in the 2012-13 Europa League.

Sarri told Sky Italia as quoted by Metro: “Inter are a good team, so I just hope they don’t have the same initial approach that we did.

“It’s important to contain them in the first 30 minutes, as that is when Spurs are really dangerous.

“Inter must also avoid losing possession in their own half, because when it comes to counter-attacks, Tottenham are one of the most effective teams in Europe.”
