Chelsea boss plays down exit rumours of Spurs-linked player

Frank Lampard denied that Chelsea are ready to sell Antonio Rudiger amidst speculation linking him with a surprise move to Tottenham.

It was reported last week that Inter Milan’s Milan Skirniar was Tottenham’s number one centre-back target (Football Insider) but the latest reports from Italy indicate that the Lilywhites are unlikely to complete a deal for the Slovak (Gazzetta dello Sport via Sempre Inter).

Sky Sports claim that Spurs could instead make an approach for Rudiger, who has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, following the arrival of Thiago Silva.

The German international did not feature in the Carabao Cup clash against Spurs on Tuesday despite Lampard ringing the changes, with Fikayo Tomori and Kurt Zouma getting the nod at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

That has done little to slow down the speculation regarding Rudiger’s future but Lampard insisted after the game that the defender is not for sale.

When asked about if the 27-year-old’s future lies away from Chelsea, he told the Daily Star: “No, it’s not at that point.”

“I wouldn’t assume anything,” he added. “I will make no assumption.”

If this rumour is not coming from Rudiger’s representatives, I suspect Tottenham are just putting out there to force Inter Milan’s hand on Skriniar and get them to reduce their asking price for the Slovak.
