Chelsea confirm injury boost as key man is back in training ahead of Spurs clash

Chelsea have confirmed that Mykhailo Mudryk has returned to training ahead of the London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs have a huge opportunity to go 17 points clear of their London rivals Chelsea with a win on Monday and Ange Postecoglou’s men would fancy their chances of doing so, given their impressive start to the season and perfect home form until now.

Tottenham also has the added motivation of getting one over their former boss, with Mauricio Pochettino set to return to N17 for the first time since his sacking back in 2019.

Chelsea have a huge injury list at the moment, with the likes of Armando Broja, Ben Chilwell, Trevoh Chalobah, Carney Chukwuemeka, Romeo Lavia, Christopher Nkunku and Wesley Fofana currently sidelined.

Will Mudryk start for Chelsea against Tottenham?

Additionally, Mudryk also missed their last two matches against Brentford and Blackburn Rovers.

When asked about the Ukrainian’s fitness, Postecoglou said in his press conference on Friday (via Football.London) “I don’t know. We’ll see. We’ll see first of all if he’s available. Then if my decision is to play with him or not.

“Yes, I think it was good for him to start a game after a few months. For the team, because he’s our captain, he’s a very important player. Now we need to assess him to see if he’s ready to start or not on Monday.”

Chelsea have now revealed on their official website that while Broja, Chilwell, Chalobah, Chukwuemeka, Lavia, Nkunku and Fofana are continuing their rehabilitation, Mudryk returned to ‘full team training’ ahead of the trip to Spurs.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think Tottenham’s game plan will change too much irrespective of how Pochettino sets up Chelsea and who starts for the Blues. Postecoglou will stick to his game plan and look to take the game to the away side.
