Chelsea could try for player who allegedly rejected Spurs this summer – Journalist reports

Italian journalist Rudy Galetti has said that Chelsea have asked for information about the availability of Manchester City centre-back Ayemeric Laporte, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham over recent weeks.

With Tottenham having signed a successor to Hugo Lloris in the form of Guglielmo Vicario and a new midfielder in James Maddison, it appears that the club are now prioritising strengthening at left centre-back next.

Fabrizio Romano took to social media on Wednesday afternoon to reveal that Spurs have now opened talks with Wolfsburg over a deal to sign Micky van de Ven while he added that Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba also continues to be on the club’s radar.

Another left-sided centre-back who has previously been mooted as a target for Tottenham is Laporte, with 90 min reporting a couple of weeks ago that the Spaniard was one of the names at the top of Ange Postecolgou’s wishlist.

However, Football Insider handed the Lilywhites a blow last week by claiming that the 29-year-old had turned down the chance to move to N17.

Chelsea could try where Tottenham failed

Galetti believes that Chelsea could soon make a move for the Man City star, with the Blues alleged to have asked for information about his availability.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Aymeric Laporte is among the names on the list of Chelsea as a possible reinforcement this summer. No talks are ongoing to date.

“Chelsea’s aim is to strengthen other roles but, in the past weeks, the Blues requested info on him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is clear that Tottenham have moved on from Laporte to other targets, possibly because the centre-back was not too keen on a switch to the club.

The club appear to be prioritising a younger profile of centre-back, which is not surprising, given that Postecoglou prefers working with and developing up-and-coming players rather than established stars.
