Chelsea defender fires warning to Spurs

Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta has fired a warning shot to Tottenham ahead of the clubs’ showdown on the 22nd of February at Stamford Bridge.

The derby match could be crucial in determining the race for a top four place in the Premier League with just four points and a single place currently separating the two sides.

Jose Mourinho will be looking to avenge the 2-0 defeat his former club inflicted on the Lilywhites at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in December, in what will be his first visit to Stamford Bridge as the Spurs head coach.

Chelsea have been inconsistent with their performances in recent weeks which has thrown the race for the top four wide open.

Azpilicueta has remarked that the Blues are aiming to make Stamford Bridge a fortress, starting with the three big home games they have this month.

Frank Lampard’s side will take on Manchester United four days before they welcome Spurs to Stamford Bridge with Bayern Munich to follow in the Champions League a few later.

Speaking about the run of fixture the experienced defender told Chelsea’s official website: “We haven’t made Stamford Bridge as solid as we would like this year.

“This is the best time to recover this solidity, with three big games in a row at home where we can show we are ready and able to make Stamford Bridge a tough place to come.

“With the fans we have had some disappointments at home altogether. When these three opportunities come we have to take them one by one, and hopefully we can build up on this. It’s key for the success of the season.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe the next three weeks will give us a much better picture of the top four race with several proverbial six-pointers coming up. While I don’t think the game at the Bridge in a couple of weeks time is a must-win for us, I believe it is one we cannot afford to lose.
