Chelsea legend claims this should be “Tottenham’s year” to win the title

Chelsea legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has said that he believes Tottenham Hotspur could be the favourites to win the title purely because of the quality they have across their squad.

Some pundits have suggested over the last few weeks that Tottenham could potentially challenge for the title this season but not everybody is convinced yet that Jose Mourinho’s men are anything more than pretenders.

The results over the next month or so will give a clearer indication as to where the North Londoners stand in comparison to the other title favourites, with Spurs set to play the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Leicester in quick succession.

Mourinho has so far played down talks of a title tilt, insisting that his side will continue to take things one game at a time.

However, Hasselbaink is convinced that this could be Tottenham’s year to go all the way.

The former Blues star told Ladbrokes (as relayed by The Sun): “I fancy – and this might hurt Chelsea supporters – Spurs for the title. I really do.

“If you look at their front three, they’ve got Gareth Bale, Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.

“On paper that is the best front three in the country. And then on the bench, as replacements for that front three, they’ve got Steven Bergwijn, Carlos Vinicius and Lucas Moura.

“Then in midfield, they’ve got so many options. They’ve got Dele Alli, who doesn’t even play, Tanguy Ndombele, Pierre-Emile Hojberg, Harry Winks.

“The only area where they struggle a little bit is at centre-half, and maybe right-back.

“But if you look at all the teams in the league, Liverpool have problems at the back. Man City have problems at the back. So do Chelsea and Man United.

“It should be – if you look on paper – Tottenham’s year.”
