Chelsea may be close to ending Nagelsmann pursuit in potential Spurs boost – Journalist suggests

Journalist Gerard Romero has suggested via Twitch and JijantesFC that Luis Enrique signing for Chelsea could be on the horizon after the manager flew to London for talks today.

Sport recently suggested that Luis Enrique would be Tottenham’s ‘dream’ appointment as Antonio Conte’s replacement.

Enrique was first mooted as a target for Spurs a few weeks ago, with some publications stating at the time that the Spaniard was Fabio Paratici’s top choice to take over (The Evening Standard).

However, with Paratici taking a leave of absence from Tottenham after his ban was extended globally, it raised questions about whether Enrique would remain a top target for the North London club.

Over the last few days, it has also emerged that Enrique is on Chelsea’s shortlist to replace Graham Potter (Fabrizio Romano).

Sport asserted that Tottenham had explored a move for Enrique even before Conte’s departure, with the Spanish coach said to be the ‘dream’ appointment this summer.

Nagelsmann is thought to have become Tottenham’s top target for the vacant head coach role (Football Insider), but Chelsea were also interested (Fabrizio Romano).

Therefore, if Enrique signs with the Blues, it could at least be one less horse in the race for the former Bayern Munich boss.

Spurs Web Opinion

Chelsea signing Enrique would be huge for Tottenham. I don’t think he would have been that good a fit for what Spurs need right now, and it would also be one less team fighting for Nagelsmann.

It could be a matter of whether Tottenham can convince the German and whether Real Madrid want him, if Chelsea do choose Enrique.
