Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta has urged the Blues stars to give everything in their games over the Christmas period starting with the all-important clash against Spurs on Sunday.
Apart from being a London derby, the game is also a six-pointer in the race for the top four spots with just three points separating fourth placed Chelsea from fifth placed Spurs.
A win for the North Londoners at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will take them above Chelsea in the table and into the Champions League spots for the first time this season, a feat that looked extremely unlikely when Jose Mourinho arrived at Spurs a little less than a month ago.
While Spurs’ form has picked up considerably since Mourinho’s arrival, Chelsea have lost their way in the past few weeks, suffering four defeats in their last five Premier League games.
Azpilicueta urged the Chelsea stars to keep their heads up and put in a big performance against the Lilywhites next weekend.
Speaking to The Evening Standard, the Spanish defender said: “We have to keep our heads up. The Christmas period is always a busy time and we have some important fixtures coming up, which we have to be ready for.
“We have to make sure we are ready, because there is a big game coming up, a derby against Tottenham next Sunday. Now is the time to think, to see what we didn’t do well and go with everything on Sunday because we need the points.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I expect the match on Sunday to be an extremely entertaining affair as we have been quite prolific at home in the past few games. Meanwhile, Chelsea have also shown this season under Frank Lampard that they like to take the game to the opposition no matter who they are up against. So, I expect this to be a high scoring game.
