Chimbonda backs Spurs man to have ‘great season’ if he gets regular starts

Pascal Chimbonda has backed Lucas Moura to shine under Nuno Espirito Santo this season if the Brazilian manages to get a regular run in the starting eleven.

Since arriving at Tottenham in January of 2018, Moura has struggled to get a consistent run of starts under his belt, with the winger proving to be a bit-part player both under Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho.

While the 28-year-old has shown glimpses of real quality during his Spurs career, including the brilliant hat-trick in the 2019 Champions League final, his inconsistency has been a source of frustration for some Tottenham fans.

Moura shone as a number ten when he was employed in the role towards the end of Mourinho’s time at Spurs and the former PSG man has been featuring in a similar role under Nuno in pre-season so far.

It remains to be seen whether Moura will be a key player for Tottenham next season under the new manager, especially with new signing Bryan Gil coming in.

However, Chimbonda believes that the winger will demonstrate his quality in N17 next season if opportunities come his way.

Responding to an Instagram post from Tottenham’s official account, the former Spurs right-back wrote:” I think Lucas will do a great season if he starting. Agree or not ?”

Spurs Web Opinion

Even if Lucas does not become a regular starter under Nuno, he can potentially be a decent impact sub to bring on.

I do believe the Brazilian can be an important part of the squad, particularly given the extra matches in the Europa Conference League.

However, I do not think the 28-year-old is capable of hitting the 15 goal mark consistently at this level.
