‘Choose the right moment’ – Alasdair Gold gives injury update on Cristian Romero

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Cristian Romero is expected to be back in action ‘soon’ as the defender is now back in training.

Romero has not featured since suffering a hamstring injury while on international duty with Argentina back in November.

In the Argentine’s absence, Davinson Sanchez has been filling in at right centre-back and the Colombian has grabbed his opportunities by putting in some solid displays.

Antonio Conte might soon have a tough decision to make, with the Spurs boss admitting last week that the central defender was ‘close’ to coming back after recovering from his hamstring injury.

The former Atalanta man took to social media ahead of the North London derby against Arsenal (which ended up being called off) to share a video of him training with his Spurs teammates at Hotspur Way.

Gold has now revealed that it is now about Conte choosing the right moment to reintroduce the centre-back into competitive action.

When asked about Romero’s injury, the journalist said on a Q&A in Football.London: “Romero should be back soon. He’s taking on more and more of a part in training sessions and now Conte just has to choose the right moment to bring him back.”

Given that Romero is returning from a hamstring injury, one would expect Conte to ease the centre-back into proceedings. I would not be surprised if the Argentine is named on the bench against Leicester on Wednesday and the Spurs boss prefers to stick with Davinson Sanchez.
