Chris Sutton predicts an exciting five-goal game between Spurs and Luton Town

Chris Sutton has said that he expects the Tottenham players to deliver a response after their 3-0 defeat to Fulham a couple of weeks ago, backing Ange Postecoglou’s men to thrash Luton Town.

The defeat to Fulham seems like a long time ago, given that we have had an international break after that, but there is no doubt that the nature of the loss will still sting for the Spurs players.

They should have gone into the game at Craven Cottage full of confidence after their big win at Villa Park but what we say was arguably their tamest performance of the season so far, with Marco Silva’s men exposing the North London side.

Spurs have what looks like a relatively easy game up next, with Luton travelling to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but Postecoglou will know that his side cannot afford to take any game for granted, with each point being crucial in the race for Champions League qualification.

Tottenham vs Luton Town score prediction

Sutton believes the Hatters might be humbled by the home side if they look to play on the front foot.

The former Celtic man told BBC Sport: “I remember watching Tottenham play at Kenilworth Road in October when they should have been out of sight after the first 10 minutes, but still ended up nicking the points after Yves Bissouma was sent off before half-time.

“I am not expecting Spurs to make such hard work of this game, and we should see a response from them after their heavy defeat against Fulham.

I admire Luton, and I am a fan of their approach under manager Rob Edwards. They are more expansive than they were at the start of the season, and I understand why, but maybe it is time for them to play with a bit more balance.

“If Luton go to Tottenham and go toe-to-toe with Ange Postecoglou’s side, that is very brave. It paid off when they went to Newcastle, and nearly won but I don’t see it working again here.”

Prediction: 4-1.

Spurs Web Opinion

Luton are not the sort of team to sit back and defend with ten men behind the ball all game and this should be a relatively open encounter and one that the Tottenham players should enjoy. However, anything other than a win for Spurs will cause alarm bells to ring.
