Chris Sutton reserves special praise for two Tottenham players

Chris Sutton has backed Harry Kane and Son Heung-min to beat his and Alan Shearer’s record of the most goal combinations in a single season and believes that the Tottenham pair might be the best duo the Premier League has ever seen.

Both Kane and Son have started the season on fire in front of goal and both players seem to be in the best form of the careers so far.

The pair were on the scoresheet with two brilliant finishes in the 2-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday, with the duo once again setting up each other’s goals.

Jose Mourinho labelled both players ‘world class’ in his post-match press conference and suggested that what sets them apart from the other forwards in the league is their willingness to work hard for the team.

Son and Kane have combined for 11 goals in 11 league matches so far, which is already the joint third highest in Premier League history behind Sutton and Alan Shearer, who combined for 13 goals, and Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson, who combined for 12.

In his column for The Daily Mail Sutton wrote about the Tottenham duo: “Kane and Son are going to beat mine and Al’s record this season, and I don’t mind passing the mantle over to such a special pair. Not one bit.

“This is a thrilling duo to watch. The best we’ve seen in a single Premier League season? I’m beginning to believe that is the case.

“Thinking back to other iconic duos — Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke for Manchester United in 1998-99; Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp for Arsenal in 2003-04; Luiz Suarez and Daniel Sturridge for Liverpool in 2013-14 — these two are right up there.

“Kane and Son are a dream for Jose Mourinho. So creative, so clinical. Kane is unselfish and drops deep, like Bergkamp used to do, to serve his team-mates.

“They’re on 11 goals after 11 Premier League games, and we’ll see plenty more combinations from them this season, I’m sure.”
