Chris Sutton thinks Tottenham are about to do something they have only done once in 138 games

Chris Sutton has locked in his prediction for Tottenham Hotspur’s first home game of the new year and he is not expecting there to be too many fireworks.

Tottenham Hotspur have gone two Premier League matches without a defeat, but there is still frustration among the fanbase after a dull 0-0 draw with Brentford.

The result has kept Spurs in the bottom half of the Premier League table, with Thomas Frank’s team sitting in 12th place on 26 points.

It is important for Tottenham to get back to winning ways, but their next opponents have shown themselves to be a tricky side to break down.

Chris Sutton predicts another goalless draw for Tottenham

Chris Sutton rarely has any optimism for Spurs this season and he has once again failed to find anything positive to note.

The pundit believes Sunderland gave everything they had to offer against Manchester City on Thursday, giving them a disadvantage. However, he has little confidence in Tottenham’s attacking threat.

Sutton told BBC Sport: “I’m not sure if Sunderland will have anything left in the tank after their efforts against Manchester City on Thursday.

“It was another example of why they have done so well – they defended brilliantly, but they were dangerous when they got the ball and they could have beaten City too.

“Mind you, Tottenham are so drab at the moment that it probably won’t matter too much if the Black Cats are low on energy.

“Sunderland are always so well organised at the back, while I don’t think Spurs, in an attacking sense, have really clicked this season.

“Tottenham will be exhausted as well, so I don’t see many goals in this one – in fact, I don’t see any at all.

“A goalless draw is unlikely to cheer the Spurs supporters up much, either.

“I know they love getting angry, but they are a fanbase who don’t actually seem to know what they want – is it a manager who delivers attractive attacking football, or someone who can set up a team to keep a clean sheet every week?”

Spurs are not scoring enough in the Premier League

Frank may have confidence in his backline after two clean sheets in a row, but his attack has offered next to nothing in recent weeks.

Tottenham last scored two goals in a single Premier League fixture on December 6 and they have not netted three times in a league game since October.

There needs to be a change of attitude among the Tottenham first-team squad because another performance where so few chances are not created will not cut it at this level.

Tottenham’s 137 game streak without any 0-0 draws came to an end last week, but Sutton believes that fans may be forced to watch back-to-back bore draws.
