Chris Waddle explains why Harry Kane will eventually look to leave Tottenham

Chris Waddle has claimed that Harry Kane will come to the realisation that he needs to leave Tottenham Hotspur for the sake of his career.

Kane admitted in an Instagram live interview with former Spur Jamie Redknapp in March that he would consider leaving North London if the club fail to match his ambitions or are no longer progressing (Evening Standard).

The 27-year-old is yet to win a competitive piece of silverware for Tottenham with the club’s last success coming back in 2008 with a League Cup final win against Chelsea.

Kane will have to make do with playing in the Europa League next season after a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League meant that the club have missed out on Champions League football for the first time in five years.

Waddle believes that the upcoming season will be crucial if Spurs are to have any hope of holding onto their star marksman while insisting no blame can be laid at his door if he does reveal his intention for a new challenge.

The former Spurs midfielder told BBC Radio 5 Live (05/09/2019 at 4:55 pm):

“Yes, he definitely has [the ability to go the next level],” Waddle told BBC Radio 5 Live.“Listen, if you can put the ball into the back of the net on a regular basis, you have got a fair chance.

“If Harry Kane came to Tottenham and said, ‘look, we need to sell, we need the money’ then there would be a lot of clubs, and I mean top clubs, who would sign him.

“He’s been very loyal to Tottenham. But this is the season where I think for Jose Mourinho, it has to explode, it has got to get better and if it’s like what it was last season then I think Harry Kane will say ‘I like it at Tottenham, I have enjoyed my time but I want to win these honours and I want to be winning medals’.

“It will eventually come to him that I have got to go. You cannot blame him. For Tottenham’s sake, they don’t want him to go, obviously.”
