Chris Waddle says Tottenham could fight for Premier League title with just one signing

Tottenham legend Chris Waddle has revealed what he thinks Spurs need to go to compete for the Premier League title in the near future.

Spurs fans are probably already bored with the intensifying speculation about Harry Kane’s potential return to Tottenham next summer.

Even though Kane has played down the possibility of leaving Bayern Munich, the speculation shows no signs of stopping just yet.

That is primarily because Kane’s contract contains a £57m release clause, which can be activated next summer, and until the striker signs a new deal at Bayern, one would expect the rumours to continue.

Chris Waddle claims Harry Kane can fire Tottenham to the title

Over recent days, it has been suggested that ENIC are keen to make Kane the marquee signing in this new Tottenham era, and are prepared to spend big to make it happen.

Waddle believes that the England captain would turn Thomas Frank’s men into title contenders if he arrived through the door, but he admitted that he cannot see the 32-year-old returning to N17 for now.

The former Spurs midfielder told BoyleSports: “I would be surprised if Harry Kane went back to Spurs. I do think he’s a Tottenham player, like Glenn Hoddle.

“Harry could easily come back, get into the Tottenham team, be their number nine again, and score goals, which would obviously help Tottenham perform better in the Premier League and have a chance of winning it.

“However, I’d be surprised if he came back. I don’t know if someone got to him and said he wants to return to Tottenham.”

Waddle makes Bayern Munich prediction about Kane

Tottenham’s record goalscorer is on course to have the most prolific season of his career and is set to break all sorts of records if he continues in the same vein this season.

According to reports, Kane is fully focused on winning the Bundesliga and the Champions League this season, and Waddle claims the striker has no reason to consider leaving Bayern.

He added: “He’s done really well at Munich. Whether he’s thought he’s had enough of Bayern Munich, I can’t say, because he’s well-respected, done ever so well, and been brilliant. Why would you give that up?

“I came back from Marseille, but Marseille had financial difficulties and had to sell all the players. So, sometimes you’re forced to move to a club. I was basically told I could only go to England. So, I was quite happy; I had a great time at Sheffield Wednesday.

“But Bayern Munich is not in the same situation as Marseille was. So, why would they want to get rid of a guy who basically scores a goal every game for them?”
