A clause in Crysencio Summerville’s contract has put Tottenham Hotspur and the winger’s other suitors on high alert.

There has been plenty of speculation linking Summerville with a move to Tottenham through the summer, with the West Ham man emerging as one of the most sought-after players of the window after the Hammers’ relegation.

Spurs have also raided their London rivals for Mateus Fernandes, and may now look to repeat the trick with the Dutchman, whose stock grew further in light of his performances at the World Cup.

The Lilywhites are expected to face intense competition for Summerville’s signature, but a clause in his contract means that the bidding war is not likely to push up the winger’s price too much.

Tottenham find out Crysencio Summerville relegation clause

TEAMtalk claim that West Ham’s relegation has altered a clause in Summerville’s contract and has significantly reduced the fee that Nuno Espirito Santo’s men can command for the player.

‘Well-placed sources’ have told the website that when the Netherlands internaitonal was signed from Leeds in 2024, a release clause was inserted into his contract, which would reduce in value if West Ham went down.

While interested clubs would have had to pay £70m for Summerville had the Hammers stayed up, his release clause has now dropped to £40m, putting a host of Premier League clubs on alert.

Spurs may have to pay over £40m for Summerville

TEAMtalk explain that West Ham are not likely to insist on the figure in the release clause being paid upfront as a one-off fee.

Instead, they are willing to accept structured payments over several years, with the overall fee likely to exceed the £40m mark

While the clause is not Summerville’s fixed price, it has effectively set the market for the player, giving interested clubs flexibility in the way they structure the deal.
