Clement Leglet expresses desire to win silverware at Tottenham this season

Clement Lenglet has said in his first interview as a Tottenham player that he wants to help the club win silverware this season.

Lenglet completed a season-long loan move to Spurs on Friday and will be hoping to get his career back on track on the back of a couple of tough seasons at Barcelona.

The Frenchman, who fell down the pecking order at Camp Nou over recent years,  would want to cement himself as a regular in Antonio Conte’s starting lineup next season.

The 27-year-old’s experience at the highest level will be of benefit to the Lilywhites, with the centre-back having won a La Liga title and a Copa del Rey during his time with the Catalan giants.

Lenglet insisted that he retains the hunger to prove himself at the highest level and compete for major honours.

He said in his first interview with Spurs TV: “I’m very excited to start the season with my new teammates, new stadium, new city.

“For me, all is new, but I’m hungry, I want to play, I want to be the best soccer player to help the team to win trophies and to fight in all the competitions.”

Tottenham have not tasted any form of silverware since 2008 and Lenglet admitted that he wants to change that this season.

The defender added: “I would like to play a lot of games, to win, because if you play and you don’t win, you are not happy.

“I want to win a lot of games to be happy, to fight at the height of the classification. It’s a dream, I would like to win a trophy here in Tottenham.”

It is evident from Lenglet’s words that Conte has spoken to him about challenging for major honours this season. Even though the Italian might not admit it publicly, he will be instilling a belief among his squad that they can compete for the Premier League title.
