Club legend offers congratulations to Spurs man after landmark moment at Aston Villa

Tottenham Hotspur legend Cliff Jones wasted little time to recognise the efforts of Heung-min Son yesterday afternoon.

The Tottenham first-team captain put in an impressive display in the 4-0 win against Aston Villa, netting the third goal of the game in a convincing win against their Champions League rivals.

While Son’s goal in the 91st minute of the Premier League clash at Villa Park helped to put the match to bed, it had some extra significance.

Heung-min Son joins Cliff Jones on 159 goals for Tottenham

Son’s goal was his 159th in Tottenham colours across all competitions since joining the North Londoners from Bayer Leverkusen back in August 2015 (transfermarkt).

The landmark goal put the captain level with Jones in the Tottenham history books as the club’s joint-fifth top goalscorer of all time.

Jones took to the social media platform X to offer his congratulations to the South Korean and wishes him his luck in continuing to find the back of the net.

He wrote: “Congratulations to sonny on joining me 5th of @SpursOfficial all time top goalscorer list on 159 goals. Hope he goes on to score many more.”

SpursWeb Opinion

It is great to see Cliff Jones still so passionate about Tottenham at the age of 89 and had the pleasure of meeting him at a home game recently. Some people say never to meet your heroes, but Cliff was an absolute pleasure.

It would not be surprising to see Sonny move into an ambassadorial role once he finishes his career at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium given his iconic status.
