Clive Allen claims Mourinho has been eyeing up Spurs for months

Former Spurs striker and first-team coach Clive Allen has claimed that Jose Mourinho has been eyeing up the managerial job at Tottenham for the best part of eight months since he managed the Inter Milan legends against Spurs Legends in the curtain-raiser for new stadium back in March.

Mourinho was appointed as the new Tottenham boss just 12 hours after the club confirmed that they had parted ways with Mauricio Pochettino last week.

The speed of the announcement led many to believe that Mourinho’s appointment has been on the pipeline for a while and Allen is sure that the Portuguese manager’s interest in the job took root during that evening when he was in the dugout for Inter Legends.

Inter emerged 4-3 victors in the game and Mourinho has spoken about how much he enjoyed the evening back in March since taking over at the club (Football.London).

Allen who played for the Tottenham legends in that game told Game Day on TalkSport (23/11/2019 12 pm start), “Yes, I did [see him eyeing up this job]. I had the great pleasure of being involved in the Inter Milan legends match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“And in the Inter ranks that day, and of course he was a very successful manager of Inter Milan, in the away team dugout sitting there taking in the surroundings was a Jose Mourinho, who looked and was very complimentary.

“He was very happy. He was very ‘I like this’. And that was a number of months ago.”

Even apart from his involvement in the legends game, it has been clear that the Tottenham job was one of the ones Mourinho had been eyeing given his intention to prove himself again in the Premier League. Hopefully his failings at Manchester United will drive him on towards success at Spurs.
