Club Brugge manager explains how Antonio Nusa is doing after Spurs and Brentford interest

Club Brugge manager Ronny Deila has said that he will hand Antonio Nusa a break after the winger endured a very hard final week of the transfer window due to his proposed moves to Tottenham and Brentford collapsing.

Nusa might perhaps rue his alleged decision to turn down Spurs’ approach and join Brentford late in the transfer window after the West London side promised him regular game time (Football.London).

As most people would be aware by now, the 18-year-old’s move to the Bees fell through in quite extraordinary circumstances in the final days of the transfer window after some knee and back problems came to light during his medical at the Gtech Community Stadium (Ben Jacobs).

Before Brentford swooped in, it was widely reported that Tottenham had struck a €30m (£25.7m) deal with Club Brugge for the player’s transfer (The Athletic) and perhaps the Norway international would now be wishing he had the green light the move to the Lilywhites.

Should Tottenham return for Antonio Nusa?

It remains to be seen whether Spurs will reignite their interest in the teenager in the summer and Deila has now addressed the rollercoaster of emotions the player went through in the dying stages of the window.

The Club Brugge boss told Het Nieuwsblad about Nusa: “It’s been a very hard week for him and everyone. After everything that happened, Antonio needs some rest. It’s sad but, at the same time, we look ahead. The positive thing is that we can still call on him this season.”

Presumably, Tottenham would have also discovered the same knee and back issues during the medical and one would assume the deal would have similarly fallen through.

It will be interesting to see if any top club is willing to take a punt on the youngster next summer. Given his documented issues, perhaps Club Brugge might have to sell him at a discount.
