Club CEO insists defender will not be sold despite reported interest from Spurs

Bologna CEO Claudio Fenucci has declared that Riccardo Calafiori will not be sold this summer amidst growing speculation linking the centre-back with the likes of Tottenham and Juventus.

Calafiori was a relative unknown to most Italian football fans until last summer but in a space of just 8 months, the versatile defender has become one of the best young defensive prospects in the Serie A and is knocking on the door of a call-up to the Azzuri side ahead of the Euros.

Over the last few weeks, various outlets have suggested that Tottenham will face competition from a number of Italian clubs for the 21-year-old, with Juve, AC Milan and Napoli all named as the youngster’s admirers (TuttoMercatoWeb).

Riccardo Calafiori is not for sale this summer

The latest to report that was TuttoSport, who claimed a couple of days ago that the Lilywhites are continuing to keep an eye on the youngster and look set to battle the Bianconeri for the player.

However, Fenucci is adamant that the centre-back will not be allowed to leave the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium this summer.

When asked about the speculation over Calafiori’s future, the Bologna CEO said (via TMW): “We have a squad of players who are demonstrating their strength, we have a coach who we hope will continue with us, when we have greater clarity we will take stock, but this is not the moment. Zirkzee, Ferguson, Calafiori? We would like to keep everyone in red and blue, which is their colour.”

One would expect Bologna to make statements like this in an effort to play hardball and push Calafiori’s price up. In reality, the defender is almost certainly leaving the Rossoblu, with the only question being where he will end up this summer.
